AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A West Texas legislator has been sentenced to 15 days in jail over a 2013 drunken driving accident in Austin.

State Rep. Naomi Gonzalez apologized in a statement, said she was sentenced for DWI and began serving the term Friday in the Travis County jail. The Democrat from El Paso, who failed in her March primary re-election bid, had no other comment.

A message left with the Travis County attorney wasn’t immediately returned Friday. Plea details were not immediately available.

Investigators say Gonzalez on March 14, 2013, crashed her BMW into another car, which then hit a bicyclist. Gonzalez, the other driver and the cyclist all sustained minor injuries.

An arrest affidavit says Gonzalez had a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit for driving.
